Course developed by Marta Asensio in the academic year 2012/2013. This course gives learners notions about how to approach collection development in a public or academic library context.

Main learning objectives:

  • become familiar with key terms and concepts surrounding collection development in libraries;
  • analyse and develop collection development policies;
  • be aware of the different requirements for collection development in general interest (public) and specialised (academic) libraries.

The course consists of presentation activities (videos with viewing comprehension exercises; texts with summarising activities); opportunities for reflection and discussion via forums; vocabulary practice via glossaries; online step-by-step tutorials; assessment via quizzes (formative) and extended essays and a literature review (summative).
